9/11 National Day of Service

In observance of the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and the federally recognized September 11 National Day of Service & Remembrance, we ask that you participate in a simple act of service to help others.

Performing a good deed in your community promotes unity and understanding while honoring those killed and injured on 9/11, as well as the many rescue and recovery personnel and members of our military who bravely rose in service in response to the 9/11 attacks.

UWMOC is offering 11 ways to give back in honor of September 11 National Day of Service:

 

  1. TRANSFORM A COMMUNITY GARDEN

    Join UWMOC & our corporate partner Brand Aromatics for an in-person Day of Service at the Ocean County YMCA as we transform their community garden and paint Kindness Rocks.

  2. HELP SUPPORT AFGHAN REFUGEES

    Assist the thousands of Afghan refugees settling in to their temporary home at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (Fort Dix) by joining UWMOC in meeting the most urgent needs of the families. Participate in our donation drive here: yougivegoods.com/nj-afghan-refugee-2021
     

  3. CREATE SENIOR COMFORT BAGS

    Participate in our Senior Comfort Bag project for isolated seniors in our community. Help brighten the day of senior citizens with a uniquely created bag of comfort items. Reach out to Jackie Liguori at jliguori@uwmoc.org or 848-206-2037 for more information.
     

  4. BECOME A BLANKETEER

    As we approach the fall and winter months, we work with volunteers to create NO-SEW blankets. This is a great project for teens and volunteers of all ages to learn the value of making a difference in the lives of those in need. Click here to learn more.
     

  5. CONTRIBUTE TO THE WARMEST WISHES COAT DRIVE

    Participate in UWMOC’s annual Warmest Wishes Coat Drive. Children in Monmouth and Ocean counties are in need of new warm coats, and UWMOC answers the call to action every year with donations from individuals and companies: uwmoc.org/WarmestWishes

     

  6. HOST A DENTAL HYGIENE DRIVE

    Host a toothpaste and toothbrush drive to help UWMOC bridge the gaps in basic need for our most vulnerable population. Contact Jackie Liguori at jliguori@uwmoc.org or 848-206-2037 for more information.

     

  7. THANK A FIRST RESPONDER

    Say thank you to our local first responders - including police, firefighters, EMTs, doctors and nurses - by writing a letter of gratitude or delivering coffee or food to brighten their day.

     

  8. DONATE BLOOD

  9. THANK A TEACHER

    Our valued teachers are forever reaching into to their own funds to provide tools for their students. Send in a few extra school supplies in with your child or deliver them to a local school to thank a teacher for all they do for our children.

     

  10. REGISTER TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER

    Register to volunteer throughout the year on UWMOC’s online volunteer center. Over 250 local nonprofits let you know who they are, what they do and post opportunities for you make a difference in your community: uwmoc.org/volunteer
